At any age, you can get back in the market by starting your own business or being employed!
Secret? You must persevere, re-skill/re-adjust and be flexible until the mission has been accomplished! Most importantly – pray🙏🙌!
To inspire you:
I have written my Legal Board exam at the age of 45 with 4 children, while my youngest was about 4 years old. To top it off, I have been in the middle of an acrimonious divorce with uncertainty about accommodation for us and means to live with! But with God’s grace, all things are possible and I have passed the exam!
What tools to put in your getting-ready toolbox:
1) Research and exercise your self-confidence and posture🧰 Body language is important to convince your client/employer to respectively obtain the business or job!
2) The way you dress, your hairstyle and being presentable counts a lot for first impressions🧰 Always dress respectfully and neatly. It reflects respect for your employer/client and towards yourself!
3) Update yourself on skills and qualifications🧰 Research what you need and/or to improve and work on it. A lot of courses can be taken online! IT -skills are vital as well as obtaining a laptop and a data supply. Some libraries and coffee places have free wi-fi. Work out a schedule of when you will study, work and attend to children. A study group of the same course is beneficial with notes and support! You are grinding together!
4) Child-care🧰 Look for support or a care facility to assist you with child-care while running your business, working or studying. Since Covid, fortunately, a lot of work/ business and attending courses can be from home.
5) Finances🧰 Don’t let your expenditures exceed your income! Plan and budget your finances wisely. Do meticulous record-keeping of invoices etc. Remember that taxes need to be paid! If you need financial advice, take financial advice from a reputable source. Get acquainted with the following if setting up your own business:
a) Income tax and VAT payable and other applicable taxes too.
b) Labour laws and the national credit Act
c) The various financial vehicles you can do business in like sole propriety, partnership, trust, company etc. The advantage and disadvantages of each.
6) Your Code of conduct🧰
a) work hard and have a standard of excellence
b) Don’t participate in gossiping, in the office or about your clients
c) Be a step forward with your skills and work
d) Create an enjoyable work/ study environment and keep it organised! You will spend a lot of time there.
e) Be friendly to all but keep your healthy boundaries.
f) Exercise, Pray and quality sleep: Very important ingredients that will sharpen the tools in your getting-ready toolbox!
